Temporary Part-Time Payroll Assistant

Job Status:                   Temporary ongoing (Hybrid)

Hours:                          Part Time Monday to Friday (3-days weekly-must include Wednesdays)
Annual Pay Rate:        £24702 - £29268

Applicants must have:

 

  • Solid Payroll experience - up to 200 staff

 

  • Ability to travel to central Newcastle (Wednesdays)


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsible to: Finance Manager and/or Head of Finance and Business Intelligence


Responsibilities:


  • Processing of company payroll every pay period.


  • Maintaining the charity’s manual and computerised payroll processing systems and records by collating, calculating and inputting data within the normal monthly accounting periods.


  • Assist HR team with calculating Flexi & Holiday allowances including pro-rata calculations for part-time staff.


  • Maintaining and adherence to payroll policies and procedures from the organisation staff handbook and ensuring compliance with Employment law and HMRC regulations.


  • Completing statutory payroll returns to HMRC for NI and PAYE obligations, and reconciliations to nominal ledger accounts.


  • Maintaining Master documentation of Employee Salaries, benefits and deductions.


  • Assist HR team in reconciling Holiday and Flexi Leave time to Financial records and Time recording systems.


  • Assist HR team in reporting Sickness, Flexi Time and Holiday balances to Management on a monthly basis.


  • General payroll administrative tasks as required.


  • Other responsibilities as may be agreed from time-to-time.



PERSON SPECIFICATION


Essential Criteria:


  • Experience of working in a small, busy finance team and possessing effective organisational and financial administrative skills.


  • Experience of calculating salaries and relevant payments for staff.


  • Experience of processing salaries in a payroll system.


  • Experience of supporting staff whom are at a senior level in an organisation.


  • IT literate with the ability to use a range of financial management and Microsoft products including Word and Excel.


  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths.


  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with a diverse range of stakeholders.


  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.


  • Ability to effectively prioritise own workload and support other team members as necessary.


  • Able to meet deadlines in a pressured environment.


  • 11. Able to work under own initiative and as part of a wider team.



Desirable Criteria:


  • A payroll processing qualification or part qualified working towards a payroll processing qualification.


  • Knowledge and skills in database and payroll accounting packages.


  • Understand the payroll support needs of a complex organisation.
