Temporary/Interim Finance Manager

Job Status:                   Temporary ongoing (Hybrid)

Hours:                          Full Time Monday to Friday (37 hours - Wednesdays in office)

Annualy Pay Rate:      £40948 - £44212 annually

Applicants must have:

 

  • Solid Finance Manager experience (private commercial or public setting)

 

  • Ability to travel to central Newcastle



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsible to: Head of Finance and Business Intelligence


Responsibilities:


  • Manage organisations financial systems including Sage nominal ledger, purchase and sales ledgers, cash book and project accounting modules, ensuring the integrity of data and information.


  • Manage the processing of financial transactions ensuring prompt and accurate entries to THE ORGANISATIONS financial systems, sales invoicing subsequent receipts and payments to suppliers.
  • Identify, propose and develop improvements to financial systems, processes and controls, ensuring that agreed initiatives are implemented and maintained.


  • Manage monthly payroll, related benefits (principally pensions) and expenses, ensuring that payments to staff, HMRC, pensions provider and other relevant parties are accurate and on-time; ensure that all statutory returns relating to payroll and all transfers of information between THE ORGANISATION and its pensions provider are made accurately and on-time.


  • Ensure that VAT is correctly charged, paid and accounted for on sales and purchases; ensure that returns to HMRC relating to VAT are prepared accurately and submitted on-time.


  • Ensure that THE ORGANISATION complies with statutory requirements relating to corporation tax, gift aid and other taxation matters; advise on opportunities for THE ORGANISATION to benefit from legitimate taxation options.


  • Provide financial information to managers and other staff, help interpretation, understanding and use of such information.


  • Assist the Head of Finance and Business Intelligence and Commercial Accountant with the preparation of monthly management accounts and quarterly reports to audit committee.


  • Assist the Head of Finance and Business Intelligence and Commercial Accountant with the preparation of THE ORGANISATIONS’s annual financial accounts including the statutory audit.


  • Supervise and support finance staff, monitor and assess performance identifying training and development needs, induction, attendance, disciplinary and grievance matters.


  • Other duties as may be agreed from time-to-time.



PERSON SPECIFICATION


Essential


  • Good understanding of financial management principles and practice within the third sector, local authority or health settings, including budgeting, budget management, accounting and reporting.


  • Knowledge and understanding of financial management systems including proprietary accounting and financial reporting software.


  • Ability to develop and maintain management information systems and procedures with appropriate controls.


  • High level of knowledge and understanding of relevant Microsoft applications together with a minimum of three years use of those in a similar work setting.


  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in formats appropriate to a wide range of audiences, including senior managers and non-finance colleagues.


  • Pragmatic and analytical approach to problem solving.


  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work and make decisions under pressure.


  • Ability to lead and contribute to the Finance team.


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with a minimum of Level 4 accounting qualification, plus at least three years’ experience in a similar work setting*.
